Trevor and Lora Miller are the husband-and-wife team behind Mountain Soul Vineyard & Winery, a family business built on curiosity, hard work, and heart. Together, they transformed an overgrown vineyard in Trail, British Columbia into a thriving winery and event venue overlooking the Columbia Valley.
Raised on a canola and grain farm in Alberta, Trevor developed a lifelong respect for the land. He earned his Master of Science in Plant Science from the University of Alberta and spent more than 20 years with Cargill, leading international research programs in canola breeding, agronomy, and healthy oil development.
In 2019, during a family trip through the Okanagan, Trevor and Lora toured several vineyards. As Trevor began identifying grapevine diseases and assessing vine health, Lora laughed and said, “If you can grow canola, I’m pretty sure you can grow grapes.” That moment sparked a new adventure.
Soon after, they discovered a neglected vineyard in Trail, BC where no grapes had been harvested for three years. For Trevor, it was the perfect challenge—to restore and reinvent. Drawing on decades of plant-science expertise, he trained under Okanagan winemaker Michael Mosny and completed viticulture and enology courses at the University of Washington.
Today, Trevor’s precision and passion are reflected in every bottle, with Mountain Soul wines earning national recognition, including medals at the Canadian National Wine Awards for their white blends and sparkling wines.
Lora’s career in healthcare leadership and program design with Alberta Health Services and later Interior Health refined her skills in organization, communication, and creating meaningful human experiences. When the family moved to Trail and began developing the vineyard, Lora brought her creativity and hospitality to every aspect of the business.
Now managing Mountain Soul Weddings & Events and overseeing the winery’s tasting and marketing programs, she ensures every guest—whether a couple getting married, a traveler tasting wine, or a local stopping by the wine deck—feels at home.
Mountain Soul is truly a family venture. Their children—Reid, Keaton, and Quinn—have each played important roles, helping with vineyard work, winery operations, events, and farmers’ markets. Together, the Miller family embodies what it means to grow something lasting from the ground up.
Today, Mountain Soul Vineyard & Winery stands as a reflection of science meeting soul—where agronomy meets artistry, and family meets community. Nestled high above the Columbia Valley, the Millers invite visitors to taste, celebrate, and experience the beauty of British Columbia’s wild heart.
